NISE SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDEES 2022-2023
New scholarships from NISE were awarded to Class of 2022 graduates from a public or private high school in NISE counties (Cook, Lake, DuPage, Kane or Will): the NISE Founder’s Scholarships and NISE Directors Scholarships.
FOUNDER'S SCHOLARSHIP
The NISE Founder’s Scholarships are merit-based and awarded to two graduating seniors enrolling to major in a STEM-related field in the Fall of 2023. Criteria for eligibility also include completion of at least three years each of high school or dual credit math and science, and participation in at least one STEM-based extracurricular activity. This year, there were two recipients of the $750 NISE Founder’s Scholarships.
Rebecca Lucas
Rebecca Lucas, Plainfield North High School Class of ‘23, will be studying Astronomy + Data Science at the University of Illinois - Urbana-Champaign in the fall. Rebecca hopes to use her experiences and passion for astronomy to not only to pursue a career in astronomical research and data analysis, but also to inspire other female students to pursue careers in STEM.
Aidan Keighron
Aidan Keighron, Wheaton Warrenville South High School Class of ‘23, will be pursuing his childhood fascination with coding by pursuing a major in Computer Science at Michigan State University this fall. He is excited to be part of the rapidly advancing field in which he can develop innovative algorithms for quantum computing, new robotic control systems, or improved neural networks.
DIRECTOR'SSCHOLARSHIP
The NISE Director’s Scholarship is also a merit-based scholarship and is awarded to one senior who is entering a certified science teaching program in the Fall of 2023 with intent to earn their science teaching license (for any K-12 grades). Eligibility also included the completion of at least three years of high school or dual credit science. This year, there was one recipient of the $750 NISE Director’s Scholarship.
Karoline Anthony
Karoline Anthony, Geneva Community High School Class of ‘23, will be enrolled in a teaching program at Butler University this fall. Karoline discovered her calling to education in her high school’s Introduction to Teaching course. She is looking forward to applying the values she developed in this course to her future and to share her curiosity about the world around her as she seeks a career as a Biology Teacher.
